Palacio Quemado Crianza
Grapes: Blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon
Style: Dry, full-bodied
The Palacio Quemado winery is located in southwestern Spain near to the border with Portugal. It is a collaborative venture between the local Losada-Serra family and the Alvear family who have been in the wine and sherry business since 1729. The wines carry the Ribera del Guadiana appellation. The original vines were mostly Tempranillo but others have been added since. These include the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah but also some varieties which will be familiar to drinkers of Portuguese wine such Trincadeira and Touriga Nacional. This Crianza has been made with 95% Tempranillo and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has spent more than 9 months in American and French oak. With an intense garnet colour, and dark berries on the nose, it is a full-bodied, well-balanced wine with a long smooth finish Ideal with red meats, sausages and rice dishes such as paella and risotto.
